Eragon (book)

Eragon is the first book in the planned Inheritance Trilogy, which was later changed to be the Inheritance Cycle. Eragon was started by Christopher Paolini when he was 15, having graduated from high school. Initially, he worked on Eragon as something to do during his vast free time, having considered himself too young for college. Paolini took approximately a year to complete the first draft manuscript of the book and subsequently spent a second year to revise it.

Christopher's parents, having their own publishing company, decided to publish the book in 2002. Paolini himself then toured for the book, dressing up in various costumes to promote interest. By a stroke of luck, the book was discovered by Carl Hiaasen, which led to the book being republished in 2003 by Knopf.
