Hrothgar was the forty-second dwarf king, and the leader controlling the thirteen dwarf clans. He would serve as king for more than a century and consider old by the dwarves. He would be in charge of the Clan of Master Smiths and Metalworkers, the Dûrgrimst Ingeitum, and the other twelve clans.
Not much is known about his past. He put his faith in Ajihad, the leader of the Varden and was able to hold an alliance between humans and dwarves. When Orik's parents passed away, Hrothgar would adopt Orik and make him, his heir. He would honor Eragon by making him a member of the Dûrgrimst Ingeitum. He would fight alongside the Varden on the Battle of the Burning Plains. He would end up being slain by Murtagh who used magic. This would be considered a double tragedy as Hrothgar wished to die facing a foe in melee combat.
In the Eragon film, he would be portrayed as human size even though dwarves barely stood as tall as the elbow of most humans.
He would have a grim and weathered face due to many years of experience, and deep flint eyes. His chest was powerful and he had a long white beard. He would wear the dwarven crown that is made up of gold, with rubies and diamonds. He would wear a shirt of mail when meeting Eragon.
